on the job
My new job, as research fellow at a leading Australian if not the world university, is going beautifully so far. I have spent hours poring over old volumes of Housing Commission publications in the library at Latrobe University, read many archaic and somewhat ridiculous theses, lugged books from under-the-house into my new temporary office, and so on. It's been great so far. I have also been chased out of the stationery room by an irate admin person, got an ugly ID card (it would have been ugly even without my ugly photograph on it) and an after hours swipe card to a building in which I do not yet have an office. I have also borrowed a lot of books and even photocopied three pages of stuff. Hurrah! Or even huzzah!

And who would have thought that the university I grew up living next to, would join the ranks of Oxford, Harvard and Stanford! According to: http://www.webometrics.info/top100_continent.asp-cont=oceania.htm it ranks as twelfth in Oceanea. Having got an offer to do Biology there in 1985 (and finding a job instead) I always wondered if it was any good. Good luck.
