hobart june 2010

I just found these images on an old USB. It's when New Estate went to Hobart to play some shows. I wrote about it then but the photos I put up then were different and not as good. This is me and Chris Gorman presumably at the airport, who knows why someone thought this photograph needed to be taken:
Just 'so Hobart':
No idea where this was or why:
Mia did a fantastic painting from this photo or one very much like it. It looks like an island but it's not.

The Battery Point-Sandy Bay border:
Chris and Marc at Natalie's parents' house in Sandy Bay or Battery Point or somewhere inbetween where notoriously Errol Flynn once spent the night probably fucking someone? You tell me
Marc

Anxious times on the mountain, I described it on the blog at the time.

If this isn't an album cover I don't know what is:

tasmanian coffee grinders

I went there this morning (Sandy Bay, just near the Purity - that's me trying to forge some vintage Hobart credentials, I know it's not working) and they did not welcome me as the prodigal son, even though I spent so many mornings there in Jan-Mar 1996 spending my dole 'cheque' on long blacks virtually justified by the chance to get a free read of the newspaper(s).

I feel I should also make a visit to the UTas library and put up a plaque in the place I first ever sent an email. Maybe I won't and say I did. (I did!).

hobart dream

I dreamt we were moving to Hobart in three weeks' time. I suggested to Mia it would be hard to maintain a North Hobart lifestyle in South Hobart but this is what we would attempt to do. I had already been to Hobart to register us as electricity users and we had been each given a bonus piece of bread which was to be our first toast made in Hobart. The bread slices were tucked into the back of a folder which contained all the periphery of moving. I said 'let's move everything', indicating the furniture in our bedroom which was actually my bedroom 1973-1983, and she said 'of course'. I realised then this would be a big move, and no going back.

five years ago

Five years ago I took Ferdie and Barry out for a walk at the Jacana wetlands. The photos suggest we had a really good time. Unfortunately ne...
