wellington day 2 (a week ago)

6 Dec
Wellington is a city of 400 000 and they like to talk, at least if the woman in the op shop (talking about The Wire and very keen on Idris Elba and could not possibly have thought Omar was a real person but talked about Omar like he was a real person, and all the time was talking to a younger person who also worked at the op shop who, when she told him he should watch The Wire, said he only watched anime), the girls in the Salvation Army op shop, the man in the record shop, other people generally everywhere actually, it's not bad, it's actually quite fun.

We went to Kelburn in the morning, on the way we saw two cats, and then I went to the conference where my paper was not ill-received. Tomorrow we are going to the theatre, which is a dream of mine for a long time now - to go to the theatre with Laura, who claims to hate theatre - and on Friday we are going to a classy restaurant I mean why the fuck not. I have bought some good things inc. a t-shirt with a NZ halfpenny on it (this is only good because I have no idea what it connotes - if it connotes anything other than what it depicts), some postcards, a Chatterbox annual which I suspect you'll be hearing more about, and a copy of Emil and the Detectives, a nice old Puffin version.
